A Woldsman's Diary traces almost two centuries of the Prescott family history, from its migration from Holderness - in a butcher's cart - to farming and settling in the Lund area of the East Riding of Yorkshire, the family base until the present day.
Set against a backdrop of village life, the author has used family diaries and farm records to chronicle changing times, farming prices and practices as well as snippets of social and national history, all of which are woven into the family story as both it and the farming business evolve.
Stephen Prescott breeds Red Poll cattle, and first became involved with the breed as a student at Askham Bryan Agricultural College, York in the early 1950s and has since held prominent roles in the UK Red Poll Cattle Society. He has travelled the globe following the breed and has been both an exhibitor and stock judge at agricultural shows.
