Published in 1958 by Abbey Press, with an introduction by John Betjeman, The Wantage Tramway by Pearce Higgins provides a comprehensive history of this tramway near Oxford, the first tramway to adopt mechanical traction.  Opened in October 1875 as a horse operated line, the tramway started to pioneer steam traction one year later.  The tramway closed in 1945 and was dismantled in 1946.
