This fascinating programme provides an illustrated history of St Kilda in Scotland from 1908 to 1980, thus providing an insight into what life was like for the inhabitants. The St Kilda Story dvd features a pioneering film of 1908 depicting birdlife and fowling, a 1920s film on village life and tourism and the final stages of life on the island prior to the evacuation of the final 36 inhabitants from St Kilda in 1930. Also includes St Kilda being taken over by the National Trust for Scotland, the arrival of the army and the return of some of the original islanders.
Also included in this dvd is a film titled Wildlife of St Kilda which was filmed over 25 years from 1957. In this programme we see the competitive world of over a million seabirds, from Gannets, Fulmars and Kittiwakes to Manx Shearwaters, Leach's Petrel and Great Skuas. The unique St Kilda Wren, St Kilda Fieldmouse and Soay sheep also feature.
In 1986 St Kilda was inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site because of its natural beauty and wildlife.
