Mastercrafts and My Dream Farm by Monty Don: Book & DVD Offer

Monty Don presents two brand new television series in early 2010, My Dream Farm and Mastercrafts, which should prove fascinating for smallholders and those with an interest in traditional rural crafts.

My Dream Farm presented by Monty Don and broadcast on Channel Four, charts the progress of six brand new farmers in their first year of working the land, aided and abetted by gardening and farming guru, Monty Don.  With over thirty years of farming experience, Monty is the ideal mentor, helping the new smallholders avoid the perils and pitfalls that beset such projects in their early days.

The six smallholders are all farming in different ways: from Alpaca breeding to flower farming, from growing orchards to keeping rare-breed pigs.  With Monty Don's assistance they learn what it will take to make their farm a success, with help, advice and inspiration from different experts in their fields.

Through three farming seasons, Monty helps them to take their product from the field to the consumer, offering support and challenges to help them on their way.  At the end of the process he judges whether or not they have what it takes to survive as a smallholder.

Monty Don's My Dream Farm dvd is available to pre-order (released March 2010) at the offer price of £17.99 (rrp: £20) and can be purchased by clicking on the following link: My Dream Farm

Monty Don also presents a second new series, Mastercrafts, broadcast on BBC2, exploring traditional British craftmanship.  Accompanying this Monty Don series, the book celebrates all aspects of rural crafts including woodcraft, thatching, weaving, stone masonry, metalwork and glass making.

Mastercrafts: The Challenge of Craftmanship showcases some of Britain's leading master craftsmen and explains the techniques at the heart of their trades. It reveals the fascinating history of British craftsmanship, inspiring interest and involvement in these valuable and rewarding crafts.  "Mastercrafts" represents a major shift in attitudes towards appreciating handmade, sustainable crafted products rather than the cheap mass-produced items with which people have become increasingly disillusioned.

Tom Quinn, the author of this fascinating book, has written bestsellers on countryside history, fishing and walking.  He is currently the editor of Country Landowner magazine and former editor of The Countryman.

Published in February, this hardback edition contains 256 pages and features 500 colour photographs and 20 colour illustrations.

Mastercrafts: The Challenge of Craftmanship is currently available at the special offer price of £18.00 (rrp: £20) and can be purchased by clicking on the following link: Mastercrafts
