Three superb dvds from the 40s Britain documentary film series, packaged together in a bargain priced collection in a standard sized dvd case. Our Country Collection includes the following archive films:
Our Country: A wartime film blending visual images and narrative poetry with the words of Dylan Thomas.
24 Square Miles (1946): Filmed around Banbury in rural Oxfordshire. This film shows in detail the use made of land for farming and industry, with commentary by John Arlott. Also features An English Village, a lovely film of the village of Harting on the Sussex Downs.
At the Coal Face: Includes two archive films from the 1940s. The Cumberland Story (1947) shows the conditions in Britain's mines with Cumberland used as an example. The second film, Rhondda and Wye (1948), is a comparison between two Welsh valleys, one used for mining, the other functions as pastoral farmland.
