Memories of a Lamplugh Farmer by the late Bob Jackson is a wonderful book with him looking back at his farming way of life in Cumbria. He was persuaded to write articles for his local parish magazine, and they proved so popular they were printed as a compilation in this limited edition book.
Bob writes about the seasons in Cumbria, examines the difficulties and joys of farming in days gone by, makes comparisons with past and present situations and reflects on what rural communities are losing today. Recommended.
An extraction from his writing ..."Every season is different and this one is no different as the snowdrops got a good start and were already showing white by Christmas. They are no further forward by the start of February due, I think, to the cold during January. In our part of the world it wasn't hard frost, just enough to put a brake on the growth of plants and save them from worse things happening."
