Lincolnshire A Century on Film Volume 5 Hope or Glory? DVD covers the 1950s. We see film of a secondary school where working on the farm, baking or metal work were still on the curriculum. The Humber Ferry carried passengers on day's out to Spurn Point and Grimsby docks was one of the world's greatest fishing ports at this time.
The enthusiastic hounds of the Belvoir Hunt were eager for exercise and there was still plenty to keep the Stud Groom and his staff busy. Louth had a new grain silo and maltings and an open day at Riseholme Farm Institute attracted a large number of visitors. Farming in the fifties was in transition as horse power was replaced by tractors and combines.
Lincoln Central was busy with rail passengers and freight and the city also welcomed a Royal visitor. The first Tulip Parade also brought colour to the streets of Spalding.
