This award-winning series shows more films shot by farmers and their workers. Volume 4 starts in 1939 with horses and binders in the harvest field, followed by steam cultivation and tractors working the land. It then progresses through four farming decades to the late 80s where large and powerful tractors had taken over. The wheelwright is seen at work fitting steal rims to wooden cart wheels, there is reed cutting for thatching, and farm controls for Foot and Mouth disease in 1967.
We see the wheat, potato and pea harvests in detail along with the beet campaign. But this time we also follow the crops on their journey to the factories where the food is processed. Early mechanisation of food packaging is also seen and the development of fertilisers and pesticides along with aerial crop spraying by aeroplane and helicopter.
