WMW Fowler (1914-1977) was a former RAF Lancaster bomber pilot during the war, and settled in Eskdale, Cumbria. Originally published in 1965 with little success, a second edition was published in 2006 which sold very well.
Here are dishes to gladden the countryman's heart, roast pheasant, casseroled grouse and pigeon, rook pie, woodcock and bacon, jugged hare, rabbit pie, tatie pot, mutton stew, salmon cakes, fried sea trout breakfast, RAF bacon and eggs and many others.
But this is much more than a cookbook - it is a whole philosophy of life, and Mr. Fowler digresses delightfully with some amusing anecdotes.
