Featuring nearly five hours of action, this 3-DVD set looks at combine harvesters from 1941 through to the present day.
Combine Harvesters Part 1 1941-1984: From the 1941 era Massey Harris 21 to the Massey Ferguson 29 of 1984, combine harvesters changed completely. Although the layout was primarily conventional, there were ever wider auger-fed headers, multiple threshing drum set ups and larger straw walkers and sieves. Grain tanks had higher capacity, bagger models had disappeared and driver comfort improved. This programme shows such developments by looking in detail at 22 key models at work in 2009. Some of the models featured include Lanz binder, Massey Harris 21, Massey Harris 780, Claas SF, Claas Matador, Massey Ferguson 400, Allis Chalmers Gleaner A Super, Ransomes 801, Laverda M150, New Holland Clayson 1545, John Deere 965, IH1420, Deutz-Fahr M 2780 H, Bonhill Fortschritt E514, Massey Ferguson 865 and 29.
Combine Harvesters Part 2 1985-2009: From the 1980s, technology became ever more advanced in harvesting machinery. In particular the threshing system changed as rotary and hybrid combines established themselves in the market. Computerisation transformed the driver's options, offering automatic steering, electronic monitoring and office management tools. This programme looks in detail at 23 models. Some of those featured include Case IH 1680, Laverda 3750, Claas Dominator 98s, New Holland TX34, Massey Ferguson 40RS, John Deere 2064, Claas Lexion 480, Massey Ferguson 7278, New Holland CR980 and Claas Lexion 600.
Combine Harvesters Part 3 2010-2013: Combine Harvesters 2010-13 Part 3 DVD brings the series up to date with the latest generations of combines. In total 32 machines are featured, including a minority of some older machines from the early 2000s which help explain where the current models are developed from. Included are the current flagships from the major manufacturers with headers up to 40ft/12m wide including the Claas Lexion 780, Case IH Axial-Flow 9230, John Deere S690i, Massey Ferguson Delta 9280 AL and New Holland CR9090. What makes the programme particularly interesting are interviews with the owners, operators or farm managers responsible for 16 of the combines featured. They touch on topics ranging from previous combine history to output achieved. Almost all the machines were filmed during the 2013 harvest and all are shown at work on British farms harvesting crops such as winter oilseed rape, winter and spring barley and winter wheat.
